Korea Education Fair 2026, held on September 18–19 at the NDMC Convention
Centre, New Delhi, attracted more than 4,500 students, parents, educators and
aspiring professionals seeking information about higher education,
scholarships, academic exchanges and career opportunities in the Republic of
Korea.</div><o:p></o:p>

Organised jointly by the National Institute for
International Education (NIIED), Ministry of Education, Republic of Korea, and
the Korean Education Centre in India (KEC), Embassy of the Republic of Korea in
India, the two-day fair provided Indian students with direct access to Korean
universities, scholarship representatives, GKS alumni and other education and
industry stakeholders.<o:p></o:p>

The event offered information on university admissions,
academic programmes, scholarships, research opportunities, one-to-one
counselling and career pathways in Korea, while also highlighting the growing

Ms. Hojeong Ko highlighted the importance of the fair in
providing students with practical information about studying in Korea. She also
emphasised the potential for stronger cooperation between Indian and Korean
educational institutions through student and faculty exchanges, joint research
and institutional partnerships.<o:p></o:p>

Representing Mr. Han Sang Shin, Mr. Choi Junha highlighted
the expanding educational relationship between India and Korea. He noted that
783 Indian students have received the Global Korea Scholarship (GKS) since

H.E. Lee Seong-ho highlighted the strength of Korean
universities, research capabilities and academic and career opportunities
available to Indian students. He also emphasised university partnerships, joint
research, and student and faculty exchanges as important elements of the
Korea–India Special Strategic Partnership.<o:p></o:p>

Universities, Scholarships and Korean Culture<o:p></o:p>

The fair featured three major zones—the University Zone,
Korea Partnership Zone and Korea Experience Zone.<o:p></o:p>

The University Zone enabled students to interact with
representatives of participating Korean universities and learn about academic
programmes, admissions, scholarships and career opportunities.<o:p></o:p>

The Korea Partnership Zone featured organisations including
NIIED/GKS, GKS India Alumni, KOSME, Korea Tourism Organization, India-Korea
Research & Innovation Center, Chungnam Economic Promotion Agency and Atomy
India. Visitors received information on scholarships, research, industry
opportunities and other avenues of India–Korea engagement.<o:p></o:p>

The Korea Experience Zone introduced visitors to Korean
culture through Hanbok, photography and K-Food activities.<o:p></o:p>

The programme also included the India–Korea Education
Leadership Forum and GKS India Symposium 2026, which explored Korean language
learning, higher education, scholarships, research, employability and career
opportunities for students and GKS graduates.<o:p></o:p>

Sessions also addressed the expectations of Korean companies
from the workforce and career pathways for GKS graduates. The programme
included remarks by Ms. Hojeong Ko and Shri Jagdip Singh, Honorary Consul
General of the Republic of Korea. Mr. Phil (H.P.) Chung, CEO, Kinexin
Convention Management and Executive Director, KINTEX, on industry and career
opportunities.<o:p></o:p>

Prof. J. S. Sabharwal, Advisor, India Korea Academic
Cooperation Programme, Mata Sundari College, University of Delhi, attended the
programme as Guest of Honour, reflecting the participation of Indian academic
institutions in strengthening educational cooperation with Korea.<o:p></o:p>

Focus on Future Cooperation<o:p></o:p>

With strong participation from students and parents, direct
interaction with Korean universities, scholarship guidance and cultural
activities, the Study in Korea Education Fair 2026 concluded with a focus on
expanding awareness of Korean higher education among Indian students.<o:p></o:p>

The event highlighted opportunities for greater cooperation
in higher education, research, student and faculty mobility, scholarships,
skills and employment. Bringing together universities, government institutions,

Sharma, New Delhi, August 21, 2026: The 27th World Korea Forum 2026 concluded
in New Delhi following two days of discussions on Korea-India relations,
geopolitical and geoeconomic changes, the Indo-Pacific, the Korean Peninsula,
international security, economic cooperation, diaspora, culture and
possibilities for future international cooperation.</div>

The
forum was held on 19–20 August 2026 at Sir Shankar Lal Concert Hall, University
of Delhi, and was organised by the Department of East Asian Studies, University
of Delhi, in collaboration with the Korea Global Foundation. Professors,
researchers, scholars and experts from India, South Korea, China, Russia,
Italy, Spain, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and the United Kingdom were
listed in the programme for the various discussions.

The
inaugural session featured remarks by Prof. Yogesh Singh, Vice Chancellor,
University of Delhi, including points concerning possibilities for India-Korea
cooperation in technology, education and research. These included possible
joint technology programmes, semester exchanges for students, joint PhD
supervision and joint research laboratories. His remarks also referred to the
role of universities, laboratories, industries, government policies,
entrepreneurship and research investment in developing such an ecosystem.

H.E.
Lee Seong-ho, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to India, spoke about the
longstanding relationship between Korea and India and the expansion of
cooperation across different fields. His address also stressed cooperation and
solidarity among countries in dealing with changes in the international
environment, and expressed the hope that the forum would contribute to
Korea-India cooperation, peace and prosperity.

Dr.
Euy Don Park, President of the Southwest Asia Chapter Council, Peaceful
Unification Advisory Council (PUAC), and Chair of the 2026 27th New Delhi World
Korea Forum, highlighted India's significance as a strategic partner for peace
and stability on the Korean Peninsula and in the wider Indo-Pacific. His
message identified dialogue, mutual trust and cooperation as important
foundations for lasting peace.

Prof.
(Dr.) Ranjana Mukhopadhyayaya, Head of the Department of East Asian Studies, in
her welcome address, referred to the forum against the backdrop of rapid
geopolitical, economic and technological developments in the Indo-Pacific. Her
address highlighted the importance of dialogue, academic cooperation and
international collaboration in responding to regional and global challenges.

The
message of Prof. Dr. Tshangchu Rhee, Executive Head of the Korea Global
Foundation, highlighted K-culture's role in generating international interest
and cooperation. His message also emphasised dialogue, exchange and cooperation
for peaceful coexistence on the Korean Peninsula and the importance of
discussions on peace and inter-Korean relations.

Several
sessions focused on the Korean Peninsula and the security environment in
Northeast Asia. The programme included discussions on denuclearisation, nuclear
self-reliance, inter-Korean relations, US-DPRK relations, North Korea's ties
with China and Russia, and India's interests and strategic role on the Korean
Peninsula.

Peace,
reconciliation and Korean unification were also among the subjects discussed.
Sessions examined the role of multilateral groups and the Global South, India's
perspective on Korean unification, economic engagement between the two Koreas,
common security and prospects for peace on the Korean Peninsula.

The
forum also addressed broader changes in the international order, including the
role of great and middle powers in the Indo-Pacific, Indian and Chinese
perspectives on global developments, relations involving India, the European
Union and emerging powers, and possible reforms in global governance
mechanisms.

Economic

and the Global South, Korea-India economic cooperation in the Indo-Pacific era,

New Delhi: The Newspaper Association of India (NAI) has written to Hon'ble Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah, urging the Ministry of Home Affairs to order an immediate investigation and ensure strict legal action against those allegedly involved in the assault, intimidation, and misconduct towards journalists, media professionals, security personnel, and Rapid Action Force (RAF) jawans during the recent protest at Jantar Mantar.
In a letter addressed to the Home Minister, Dr. Vipin Gaur, General Secretary of the Newspaper Association of India, expressed serious concern over reports and videos circulating on social media that allegedly show journalists being physically assaulted, obstructed, and intimidated while carrying out their professional duties. The Association also highlighted reports that some female journalists were allegedly subjected to inappropriate and objectionable behaviour, calling for a thorough and impartial investigation into the incidents.
The NAI has requested the Ministry of Home Affairs to direct the concerned authorities to conduct a fair, impartial, and time-bound investigation, examine all available video footage and other evidence, including publicly available social media videos, identify those responsible, register FIRs wherever cognizable offences are established, and take strict legal action in accordance with the law.
The Association has further expressed concern over reports that security personnel, including RAF jawans and other law enforcement officials, were allegedly assaulted or obstructed while performing their duty of maintaining law and order. It has urged the government to investigate these allegations and initiate appropriate legal proceedings against those found responsible.
Emphasizing the vital role of a free press in a democratic society, the Newspaper Association of India stated that journalists—often referred to as the "Soldiers of the Pen"—play an essential role in informing the public, frequently working in challenging and sensitive situations. The Association noted that attacks on journalists while they are performing their professional responsibilities not only endanger media personnel but also undermine press freedom and democratic values.
